Tri-County, MA Real Estate Blog

Sorry this is not HGTV. You want real life? You got me.

My mom is a real estate agent.  Maybe that’s the foundation of my calling.  When she started watching HGTV she would complain about all the real estate shows.  Being a new college grad and thinking that anything out of a cinderblock walled, share a bathroom with 10 women dorm room was a huge step up; I didn’t really care about granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and two story foyers.

What my mom saw really irritated her.  "You call that a small bathroom?  There’s nothing wrong with those laminate countertops!  Those appliances are top of the line!  So what if they’re 5 years old?  5 years old??!!  5 years young is more like it"!  Mom always speaks the truth.

This is not HGTV.  Sorry but you can’t always find a home with granite, stainless, polished hardwoods, etc, in every house you look at in your price range.  You might have to invest a little in yourself.  Establish your own equity, find the potential in a “dated” but completely move in ready home.  And I am here to help you weed out the weak versus the best buys with the most potential.

The home inspection may find some issues that might need to be taken care of.  The wires need a box cover (costing $10).  The carpeting might need to be stretched.  You might have to rent a water heater.  None of these will cost you more than the $500 threshold you put on the contingency!   Being a homeowner means being ready to accept and take care of these “issues.” This is not HGTV.

I am here to help you find the best bang for your buck.  I know what you are looking for.  What your hopes and dreams are.  What you are willing to spend, and how much sweat equity you are willing to dish out, if any.  If we happen to find a home with granite, stainless, open floor plan, walk in closets, in your price range, well we’ve hit pay dirt!  Maybe we should apply to be on HGTV! If not, that's OK.

I'm here to tell you that you don't need to live by HGTV standards.  Afterall what is HGTV but a vessel to sell commercial space.

Course I must admit, if they knocked on my door today asking me to grace their channel with my presence, no way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks I'd say no! Do me a favor, though?  Don't tell my mother!
